Every number here is read straight off the size chart the calculator carries; nothing is interpolated. Manufacturers vary by a fraction of an inch, so treat these as a general guide and confirm the frame, masonry opening and clear opening against the actual product before detailing.

A size code ending in an asterisk clears the residential emergency escape opening on every floor: at least 5.7 ft² of clear opening, at least 24 in high and at least 20 in wide. SH 34 is the case worth watching, because its 6.49 ft² clear opening is large enough but its 19 5/16 in height is not.

Architects and Engineers often use an abbreviated nomenclature to denote the size of single-hung windows.  Measurements seem to vary slightly given different manufacturers, so this calculator should be used as a general guide for window frames, masonry openings, and clear opening sizes.  For the most accurate results, verify the actual dimensions with the manufacturer.
